I am Here Now
Solo Show, Yours Truly | June 2024

To draw a bird: start with the top of the beak, then the head, the right wing, the feet, the left wing, then close the shape. The right wing might turn out too big, so the feet have to get smaller. That’s okay. You won’t know how it will turn out when you start drawing it.
When I draw like this, I can let go of trying to make something good, or smart, or productive. I will not make a plan. I will not tense my shoulders or my jaw! I will let the borders dissolve. I will discover something true.
Meeting this part of myself revealed a new beginning that was quietly forming, waiting until I was ready. I didn’t know I would draw all these birds and now it makes sense why I did. I’m telling you this so maybe you can do it too. You can draw a bird that makes you quit your job. You can make an object that teaches you about yourself. This connection is waiting for you! Hold nothing back.
